MARQUETTE — Team Sweden squared off against Team USA in a dual Greco-Roman men’s and freestyle women’s wrestling meet on Wednesday evening at the Superior Dome on the Northern Michigan University campus.

Sweden won 22 of the 29 matches as the American squad consisted of cadet- and junior-age athletes from around the country who are visiting the NMU Olympic Training Site for the Superior International Wrestling Camp.

Women’s freestyle wrestling was added this year to go with the traditional competition at this meet that was exclusively featured Greco-Roman style.

“This year, Sweden asked if they could send female wrestlers to train at our camp and we welcomed the opportunity to have them participate,” NMU-OTS head wrestling coach Rob Herman.

“Even though we focus on the Greco-Roman style of wrestling at the NMU-OTS, we encourage opportunities to promote the development of athletes in both Olympic styles of wrestling — freestyle and Greco.”

The Superior International Wrestling Camp wraps up Saturday.
