ESCANABA — It appears as if the Negaunee baseball team can’t be stopped right now.

After picking up doubleheader sweeps over Gladstone and Iron Mountain, the Miners took both games of a twinbill with Escanaba Thursday, 3-0 in the opener and 15-11 in the nightcap.

In the first game, Negaunee relied on early offense and some solid pitching from Alex Munson to earn the victory. The Miners scored a run in the top of the first and added two more in the second, while Munson kept the Eskymos at bay the rest of the game. Munson gave up only two hits and three walks, while striking out one over six innings. He also went 2 for 3 at the plate with a run scored, while Adam Ogea had a single and a run scored.

The second game was a much different tale as both teams started connecting early with their bats. The Miners took a 7-1 lead in the top of the second, but Escanaba answered back with seven runs of its own in its half of the frame. However, Negaunee retook the lead in the third with two more runs.

After the Eskymos tied the game at 9-9 in the fifth inning, the Miners caught fire again and took control. Negaunee plated six runs in the sixth and held off one last Esky rally in the bottom of the frame to complete the sweep.

Munson and Ogea continued their impressive afternoons with the former going 3 for 5 with two RBI and a run scored, and the latter going 1 for 3 with two RBI and three runs scored. Carter Richardson added a double, three RBI and two runs scored for Negaunee, while Rylie Nummela had a double, three RBI and two runs scored. Hunter Haanpaa got the win in relief for the Miners after two innings of work.
