Kraemer, Ackerman lift Bay College women to victory

MASON CITY, Iowa — The Bay College women’s basketball team opened its season with a 61-47 victory over Ellsworth Community College Friday in its first game at the Konigsmark Klassic.

Norway alum Jordan Kraemer and St. Ignace native Jordan Belleville tied for the team lead with 19 points, while Munising alum Kelsea Ackerman knocked down three 3-pointers for nine points.

Bay opened up the game on a 10-2 run, but was plagued by poor shooting both from the field (26.1 percent) and the free throw line in the first half. With the Norse struggling offensively, ECC eventually took the lead and held a 24-20 advantage at the half.

However, the Norse bounced back in the second half. Kraemer’s ability to drive the lane and some nice shooting beyond the arc from Belleville helped Bay kick its offense into gear. Kraemer made seven shots in the half and Belleville hit five 3-pointers. Those efforts and some pressure defense helped throw ECC off its game and Bay outscored the Panthers 25-10 in the fourth quarter to get the win.

The Norse play North Iowa Area Community College at 4 p.m. today.
