Wes Vear wins in rowing at Pan American trials

MARQUETTE — A former youth rower with the Upper Peninsula Community Rowing Club won a competition at the U.S. trials for the Pan-American Games in August.

Marquette native Wes Vear won in the men’s doubles at the trials held Aug. 20 on Mercer Lake in New Jersey. He was rowing for the Cratsbury club with partner Nathan Lado and won in 6 minutes, 32.6 seconds, 3.1 seconds ahead of the runners-up, according to information on the website www.row2k.com.

Vear was a UPCRC rower and Marquette Senior High School swimmer, then rowed for four years for the University of Michigan before representing the U.S. in 2015 and taking gold in the men’s eight at the World University Games.
