Chad Wester prevails over Robert Luke in Marquette Golf Club Men’s Club Championship finale

MARQUETTE — Chad Wester defeated Robert Luke in match play on Monday afternoon to capture the 2018 Men’s Club Championship at the Marquette Golf Club.
Both golfers were playing their second 18-hole match of the day after Wester defeated Kurt Ghiardi and Luke downed Aaron Swanson in the semifinals that morning.
After qualifying was held the previous weekend, 15 golfers and defending champion Nathan Aho advanced to tournament matches that began Saturday. With Aho at No. 1, golfers were seeded based on their qualifying scores.
In the first round, Wester defeated Jim Higgins, Luke felled Brett Specker, Dennis Hruska overcame Aho, Jeff Blewett dropped Ben Specker, Swanson got by Dan McCutcheon, Mike Devine blew past Dan Nygard, KC Bjorne downed Scott Frazier and Ghiardi took out Ben Johnson.
In the quarterfinals on Sunday, Wester axed Devine, Luke dropped Hruska, Swanson felled Blewett and Ghiardi zipped by Bjorne.
These are the other flight winners — 1st, Nathan Aho; 2nd, Tyler Bergwall; 3rd, Tom Robinson; 4th, Ed Grimes Jr.; 5th, Ben Smith; and 6th, Mike L’Huillier.
