Superiorland Soccer Association U-17 Red Bulls win 2nd straight at USA Cup

BLAINE, Minnesota — The Superiorland Soccer Association’s Red Bulls won its second straight game at the USA Cup with a 5-1 victory over White Bear Lake, Minnesota, on Thursday.

Playing in the Under-17 Silver Division, wind and rain only temporarily slowed the Red Bulls, who took a 2-0 halftime lead off goals by Trevor Salmon off a Drew Wyble pass and Wyble with an assist from Tanner Cain. Liam Jeevar tended net before intermission, stopping three shots.

The Marquette-based team worked into a strong wind in the second half and Bulls’ keeper Salmon was unable to stop a free kick, though he stopped seven other shots. The Red Bulls increased their lead, however, with Jeevar scoring off an assist from Cain, then Cain notching a goal with Ryan Baldwin assisting, and finally, Baldwin getting a score off an Erik Salminen pass.

“In some pretty ugly conditions, Evan Phillips and Nicolaas Vermaat stepped it up playing in positions they don’t normally play,” Bulls coach Dan Salmon said. “They were great team players today.”

Single-elimination playoffs open today with the Red Bulls taking on Inver Grove Height, Minnesota.
