Garrett Finkbeiner pitches Marquette Blues American Legion baseball team to victory over Negaunee Diamonds

NEGAUNEE — The Marquette Blues jumped out to a 5-0 lead after two innings to take a 7-2 victory over the Negaunee Diamonds in an American Legion baseball game played at the Irontown Field in Negaunee on Tuesday.

Starting and winning pitcher Garrett Finkbeiner gave up two runs — neither earned — in 4 1/3 innings to help his team build the early lead. He allowed three hits and three walks while striking out seven.

Blake Henriksen finished the final 2 2/3 innings, not allowing a run nor a hit while walking two and fanning five.

Jacob Adriano absorbed the loss for Negaunee, which committed six errors. He gave up six runs, four of them earned, on eight hits and two walks while K’ing five.

Jadan Grobar completed the final two innings for the Diamonds, allowing an unearned run but no hits as he walked two and fanned one.

Negaunee scored its two runs in the bottom of the fourth to narrow the gap to 5-2, but Marquette answered with two back in the top of the sixth for the final margin.

The Blues’ Jakob Peterson went 2 for 4, knocking in two runs and scoring three times. Teammate Hunter Doucette was 2 for 2 with a triple, RBI and run; Peter VandenAvond had a double; Alec Gadzinski was 1 for 3 with an RBI and was hit by a pitch; and Henriksen, despite going hitless, had an RBI, sacrifice fly and walk.

Keenan Johnson doubled for the Diamonds and scored a run, while Taylor Laurin was 1 for 2 with two RBIs.
