NMU swimmers, divers breeze

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The Northern Michigan University men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams swept the competition at a meet hosted by Wisconsin-Stevens Point on Saturday.

The Wildcat men topped Wisconsin-Stevens Point, 162.5-136.5, while the women bested Minnesota State, 180-116, and Wisconsin-Stevens Point, 220-78.

“This was a great day for the Wildcats,” NMU head coach Heidi Voigt said. “The women started awesome by winning the 200 medley relay and we kept the momentum going the rest of the meet.”

Rachel Borchardt won the 200 (1:57.33) and 500 (5:13.51) freestyles in season-best times.

Molly Kearney captured both board titles with season-best scores, winning the 1-meter with a 289.65 and the 3-meter with a 294.25.

Savanna Saunders scored victories in the 200 backstroke (2:06.86) and 400 IM (4:38.78), while Crystal Bennet won the 100 butterfly (58.21) and also anchored the 400 freestyle relay with personal best times.

Dana Stroven (100 breaststroke, 1:07.91) and Emily Bell (200 butterfly, 2:12.88) were the other NMU swimmers to pick up victories at the meet.

Regan Kilburn, Becca Arakelian, Bennet and Courtney Konopiski won the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:48.88.

On the men’s side, Grantas Dapkus took home the 1,000 freestyle (9:49.87) and 500 freestyle (4:51.60) crowns.

Ryan Knox-Leonard captured the 200 freestyle (1:43.29) and 200 butterfly (1:55.93) titles, while Renars Bundzis won the 100 (52.72) and 200 (1:54.74) backstrokes.

All three were on the winning 400 freestyle relay, along with Benjamin Lindberg, which clocked in at 3:10.61.

Marc Perello scored victories in the 100 (59.20) and 200 (2:07.79) breaststrokes,while David Miranda was a winner in the 100 butterfly (53.56) and 400 IM (4:18.80).
