HANCOCK – A pair of former area high school players were the leading scorers for the Finlandia University at a women’s college basketball tournament held in Milwaukee over the weekend.

The Lions lost twice, 68-40 to Wisconsin Lutheran on Friday and 82-65 to Martin Luther on Saturday, as part of the Paul F. Knueppel Classic to fall to 0-4 this season.

Against Wisconsin Lutheran, Ishpeming graduate Gabby Hebert scored a team-high 10 points for Finlandia, while teammate Brooke Pasanen of Superior Central scored eight points and pulled down a game-high nine rebounds.

In the Martin Luther game, Valerie Rajala of L’Anse netted game highs of 18 points and nine rebounds in Finlandia’s loss. Pasanen had eight points and three rebounds.
