Swimmers set marks

MARQUETTE – School records were set as the Northern Michigan University men’s and women’s swimming/diving teams topped Findlay (Ohio) and Tiffin (Ohio) Saturday at the PEIF Pool in Marquette

School records fell in four events. Marc Perello continued his assault on the Wildcat record book, posting a time of 2:06.45 in the 200 breaststroke to claim top billing.

Ryan Knox-Leonard also posted a school mark, clocking in at 1:56.32 in the 200 backstroke.

Perello, Renars Bundzis, Kyle Christensen and Benjamin Lindberg took first in the 400 medley relay with a time of 3:31.18, while Grantas Dapkus posted the top 1,000 freestyle time in school history, touching the wall in 9:38.67.

Rachel Borchardt, Crystal Bennet, Savanna Saunders, Dapkus, Joshua Cosgrove and Knox-Lenoard each won three events..

Wildcat newcomers Emily Bell (200 butterfly) and Connor McDermott (3-meter springboard diving) won their first collegiate events.

The Wildcats return to action when they travel to Moorhead, Minn. for a meet Oct. 16-17.
