Spiker Whitehead cited
MARQUETTE – Madison Whitehead of the Northern Michigan University women’s volleyball team has been named the GLIAC North Division Player of the Week.
“This is a wonderful acknowledgment for Madison and our team,” NMU head coach Dominic Yoder said. “We have been pretty impressed with Madison’s work ethic to get to the performance level she is at right now.”
Whitehead paced a Wildcat team that went 2-0 on the weekend with 28 kills – an average of four per set – and a .370 hitting percentage. She also totaled four blocks.
Against Malone Oct. 9, Whitehead posted a match-best .409 hitting percentage and was one of only two players to reach double digits in kills with 12.
In Northern’s sweep of Walsh Oct. 10, Whitehead equaled her season-best mark with 16 kills, one shy of her career high set Sept. 23, 2014 against Michigan Tech and accomplished again Sept. 27, 2014 against Findlay.
