Paramski sparks Newberry triumph

NEWBERRY – John Paramski was a one-man wrecking crew for the Newberry High School football team Saturday.

The junior quarterback ran for 226 yards in just 12 carries and scored four touchdowns as the host Indians beat Gaylord St. Mary in a non-conference contest, 50-26.

Paramski scored on runs of 49, 18, 65 and 22 yards as Newberry improved to 4-2 overall this season.

“A lot of that came on runs to the edge,” NHS head coach Fred Bryant said. “Our wide receivers blocked well and Paramski sheds tackles.”

Adam Hildebrant added a pair of TDs for the Indians on runs of 6 and 8 yards.

Andre James chipped in a 60-yard kick return for a score for Newberry, which led 22-6 at the half and 35-6 after three quarters of play.

“We controlled the line of scrimmage on offense,” Bryant said. “We had half the number of running attempts as Gaylord St. Mary, but got chunks of yardage.

“Our passing game was effective, too.”

“We gave up a couple of touchdowns late, which we shouldn’t have,” he added. “But we were able to get some of our younger players in the game in the fourth quarter, so it was well worth it.”

Josh Nowicki scored three TDs for GSM.
