Marquette set to host U.P. boys soccer finals on Saturday

MARQUETTE – The end-of-the-season Upper Peninsula Soccer Finals for the high school boys’ sport will again be held in Marquette at the Kaufman Sports Complex on Saturday.

Six U.P. teams will participate – the Marquette Senior High School varsity and JV teams, along with Kingsford, Iron Mountain, Sault Ste. Marie and the Escanaba Bayside high school-age club squad.

Admission is $5.

Pool A includes the MSHS varsity, IM and Escanaba. Pool B is the Marquette JV, Kingsford and the Soo.

Both MSHS teams will be in action when pool plays kicks off at 10 a.m., the Redmen varsity on Field 2 (nearer the concession stand) vs. Escanaba Bayside and Marquette JV on Field 1 (closer to the park entrance) against Kingsford.

At 11:30 a.m. will be the Soo vs. Kingsford on Field 1 and Escanaba vs. Iron Mountain on Field 2.

Pool play ends at 1 p.m. with the Marquette varsity vs. IM on Field 2 and the Marquette JV vs. the Soo on Field 1.

The two third-place teams from each pool square off at 3 p.m. on Field 1, while the pair of second-place teams play at the same time on Field 2.

The championship game pitting the two pool winners takes place at 4:45 p.m. on Field 2.
