SSA rec teams holding playoffs

MARQUETTE – A number of recreational divisions from the Superiorland Soccer Association will hold league playoffs this weekend at the Kaufman Sports Complex in north Marquette.

With the two fields at Kaufman divided into four, the under-10, under-12, under-14 and under-18 divisions will keep the pitch full with 55 games scheduled on Friday evening and all day Saturday. Championship games are set for Sunday afternoon.

These age groups include a total of seven divisions, with the U10, U12 and U14 each having a coed and girls league and the U18 just a coed division. An estimated 900 players are participating in this summer’s leagues.

No admission is charged to watch the games, with the first ones each day starting at 5:30 p.m. Friday, 9 a.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday.

These divisions are separate from the SSA’s travel teams, which regularly play teams from other regions and travel to games and tournaments that include other parts of the Upper Peninsula, the Lower Peninsula, Wisconsin and Minnesota.
