Huebner named state winner

MARQUETTE – Marquette Senior High School senior Shayla Huebner is one of eight statewide winners of a Multi Sports Athlete award made by the Michigan High School Coaches Association.

Huebner was named the inaugural Class A Female winner, with one senior boy and one senior girl named in each of the state’s four classes.

She was the only Upper Peninsula athlete selected and will receive a plaque at a school ceremony.

The basic qualification was that a student had to participate in three seasons of MHSAA-sanctioned sports during all four years of high school.

Nominees, limited to one boy and one girl per school, were then scrutinized based on team and individual accomplishments, scholarship, leadership and service to their school and in their communities.
