Wildcats fall at GLIAC/GLVC Crossover

AURORA, Illinois – Rockhurst University prevailed 3-1 over Northern Michigan University on Friday in the Wildcats’ first match of the GLIAC/Great Lakes Valley Conference Cross Challenge.

NMU slipped to 10-8 overall with the loss, while the Hawks, ranked second in the GLVC, improved to 16-2.

Rockhurst recorded a 25-19, 25-15, 23-25, 25-12 win.

The Hawks jumped out to a 13-6 lead in the first set and 17-8 in the second. Northern trailed 13-9 in the third set before junior outside hitter Lisa Studnicka had three kills during a 6-1 run by the Wildcats as they went ahead, 15-14, and kept it the rest of the way.

Studnicka finished with a match-high 16 kills, while Rockhurst’s Anna Aycock had 10 kills with just one error for a hitting percentage of .600.

NMU freshman middle hitter Madison Whitehead had three solo blocks and assisted on another two, while fellow freshman Meghan Seymour had 40 assists out of the 46 as setter.

The Wildcats close out their part of the Crossover Challenge today with two more matches in Aurora, Illinois, against GLVC teams at 11 a.m. EDT against Wisconsin-Parkside and 5 p.m. EDT against Lewis.
