HEBER, Utah – Senior Rosie Frankowski led not only Northern Michigan University, but all collegiate skiers by finishing sixth overall at Wednesday’s wrap-up of the U.S. Cross Country Championships at Soldier Hollow Resort in Utah.

Frankowski completed the 20-kilometer mass-start race in 1 hour, 10.2 seconds as the winner of the event was NMU alumnus Caitlin Greg.

Wildcats sophomore Mary Kate Cirelli was the second Central Collegiate Ski Association finisher in 1:03:42.8, while junior teammate Felicia Gesior was ninth in the region.

“I think the conditions played right into Rosie’s hands,” NMU head coach Sten Fjeldheim said. “Tougher, slower skiing really works to Rosie’s advantage, and she just had a great race today.”

Northern freshman Adam Martin placed 11th in the junior 10K freestyle, just missing out on a place in the top 10 after being caught by a large pack late in the race.

But Martin was still named to the U.S. Junior World Championship team that will represent the nation at that event later this year.

“We are really excited about Adam being named to the Junior World Championship team,” Fjeldheim said. “It’s great that he gets the opportunity to represent not only NMU, but the United States.”

This is the 22nd straight year that NMU has had a skier on the Junior World Championship roster.

Senior teammate George Cartwright was the third CCSA finisher and 33rd overall finisher in the men’s 30K. Junior Kyle Bratrud was 54th overall and ninth in the region.
