NMU men’s soccer hosts Fall Elite ID Camp in September

MARQUETTE -- Just when fall weather is around its most perfect in the central Upper Peninsula -- technically just days before the official end of summer -- the men's soccer team at Northern Michigan University will host its Fall Elite ID Camp near the shores of Lake Superior.

Leaves will probably have just started turning fall colors when the camp is held on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 12-13.

"We are very pleased we've been able to reschedule this ID camp so quickly," Northern head coach Alex Fatovic said in an NMU Sports Information news release announcing the camp. "Our ID camps are critical to our recruiting process, and with this camp centered around one of our fall games, it's going to be an awesome weekend for 2027, 2028 and 2029 prospects. We look forward to seeing you there."

The game the camp is scheduled around is the Wildcats' final nonconference contest against the University of Jamestown (North Dakota) that will be played at 1 p.m. on Sept. 12.

Player prospects for upcoming years at NMU who are interested in playing possession-based soccer at the highest level are encouraged to attend one or both days of the Fall Elite ID Camp.

With spots still available for 2027, it's the best opportunity to work directly with the Northern men's soccer staff.

Fatovic noted that seven current Wildcats have attended one of the ID camps in the past, including several upperclassmen.

They are senior defender Davian Gumbs of downstate Rockford who played for the Midwest United NAL club, and junior midfielder Tyler Kowalczyk of De Pere, Wisconsin, who played for FC Wisconsin North.

Several NMU redshirt and incoming freshmen players also attended the camps, including defender Noah Girard, forward Asa Ross, forward McKinney Jiles, defender Jonah Wallace and midfielder Matteo Przysucha.

Camp times are 3:30-5 p.m. on Sept. 12, immediately after the Wildcats' game vs. Jamestown, and from 8-9:30 a.m. and noon-1:30 p.m. on Sept. 13, with a college recruiting discussion held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. the second day.

This is open to all current high school or college-age players and will be held in the Superior Dome that looms adjacent to the NMU Soccer Field. Cost is $150, which covers all fees, with a minimum $25 nonrefundable processing fee for cancellations.

Attendees are asked to bring indoor and outdoor soccer boots, a water bottle, shin guards, snacks and a change of shirt.
