MARQUETTE — A member of the women’s lacrosse team at Northern Michigan University has earned a first-time distinction in the relatively short history of the program.

Junior attacker Josie Lakosky was named to an All-America team by the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association, the first Wildcat to be honored as an All-American.

The 5-foot-7 native of Victoria, Minnesota, was named to the Third Team by the IWLCA and USA Lacrosse Magazine. The full release is available online at https://www.iwlca.org/IWLCA/News/News-HomePage.aspx.

She finished her historic third season at NMU with two All-America honors, a Midwest All-Region First Team selection, and was voted the GLIAC Attacker of the Year, denoting Northern’s Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

During the course of the late winter and spring season, she was also named GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week five times, with two of those also resulting in an IWLCA National Offensive Player of the Week honor.

Lakosky was the only GLIAC player named an All-American, though one of the Wildcats’ nonconference opponents, Indianapolis, had four players earn these top honors. National top-5 UIndy defeated Northern 20-7 on April 21.

Another NMU opponent, top-20 Regis University, also had an All-American. That school defeated Northern 14-6 on March 5 in Denver.

Lakosky broke just about every non-goaltending season record that NMU has with all these as No. 1 in Wildcats history — 105 goals, 43 assists, 148 points, 216 shots, 179 shots on goal, 54 ground balls, 34 caused turnovers and 126 draw controls. Several of those were records she set herself a year earlier.

With her entire senior season still in front of her in 2027, Lakosky’s 219 goals match the career goals record — and in 16 fewer games — than the standard set by Minnie Bittell in 2024.

Lakosky began the season with 15 goals and five assists in the Wildcats’ opening two-game weekend, while one of the national honors followed an eight-goal, 11-point game.

By the end of the season, which occurred when NMU played in the GLIAC Tournament championship game for the fourth straight year, she led all of NCAA Division II in goals, goals per game, points and points per game, while ranking No. 2 nationally in shots and in shots on goal per game.
