MARQUETTE — Eight girls high school basketball players from The Mining Journal’s coverage area in five central Upper Peninsula counties earned Special Mention and Honorable Mention in All-U.P. voting last week.

The U.P. Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association met at Northern Michigan University on March 30, determining awards in both boys and girls basketball. Boys honors were announced last week.

Special Mention was accorded to players who didn’t make it on their division’s Second Team but received two or more votes. Honorable Mention went to all others.

Here are these honored players, listed with year, school, and when available, height and position:

Special Mention

Divisions 1-3 — Addy Hallum, 5-8 sr. guard, Westwood; Paige O’Donnell, 5-11 soph. guard, Negaunee; Keira Waterman, 5-9 jr. forward, Negaunee

Division 4 — Brittanie Piotrowski, 5-6 sr. guard, Ishpeming

Honorable Mention

Divisions 1-3 — Addi Kramer, 5-9 jr. guard, Marquette; Liliana Saunders, 5-7 sr., Negaunee

Division 4 — Danica Jahfetson, 5-4, 8th grade, Baraga; Kaylen Kienitz, 5-6 jr. guard, Munising
