CCHA bestows academic awards on 15 Wildcats

MARQUETTE — More than half of the players on the hockey team at Northern Michigan University — 15 on a roster listed at 28 online — have been honored for their academic excellence by the Central Collegiate Hockey Association.

The Wildcats’ league announced its 2025-26 All-Academic Team last week with 159 student-athletes honored across the nine member schools, each for having a 3.00 or better grade-point average on a 4.00 scale.

Another 115 of these players were named to the CCHA Scholar-Athlete Team for a GPA of at least 3.50, making 274 honored in all.

Northern’s 15 honorees included a full dozen getting the Scholar-Athlete top honor and the balance earning All-Academic Team.

These are the NMU Scholar-Athletes, listed alphabetically each with their year, major and hometown:

• Jakub Altrichter, sophomore, pre-business, Prague, Czech Republic

• Nicolas Ardanaz, senior, business management, Surrey, British Columbia

• Medrick Bolduc, sophomore, communications, Val-d’Or, Quebec

• Danny Ciccarello, senior, business analytics, Kirkland, Quebec

• Warren Clark, junior, management, Riverside, Ontario

• Anthony Cliche, sophomore, finance, Vallee-Jonction, Quebec

• Grayden Daul, sophomore, business, Glenview, Illinois

• Zane Demsey, senior, accounting, Harrison Township

• Tynan Ewart, junior, criminal justice, Duncan, British Columbia

• Caiden Gault, senior, entrepreneurship, Oakbank, Manitoba

• Aidyn Hutchinson, sophomore, business, St. Albert, Manitoba

• Joe Schiller, sophomore, financial management, Moorhead, Minnesota

These are the three Wildcats who earned All-Academic:

• Kyle Bettens, senior, marketing, Winnipeg, Manitoba

• William Gramme, junior, philosophy, Stockholm, Sweden

• Grayden Slipec, sophomore, marketing, Surrey, British Columbia

A year ago, Ardanaz, Ciccarello and Ewart also earned CCHA academic awards among eight Northern players getting those, while in 2023-24, 19 Wildcats earned these kind of awards, and in 2022-23, 15 NMU players were honored.
