Wildcat wrestlers 3-1 at Tiffin Duals
TIFFIN, Ohio — The women’s wrestling team at Northern Michigan University won three of four matches at the Tiffin Duals meet held at the Ohio school’s campus on Saturday.
The Wildcats defeated Lourdes, Hiram and Frostburg while falling by just two points to Otterbein.
Among the contested matches, the Wildcats were just as dominant, winning 19 of 24.
NMU has matches over the next three weekends, starting with the Mike Duroe Invitational in Mount Vernon, Iowa, on Saturday morning, before taking three weeks off to prepare for its NCAA regional meet on Feb. 21.

NMU 28, Lourdes 1
In its opener, Northern won all five contested matches.
Freshman Jamie Cook pinned her opponent in 1 minute, 53 seconds at 131 pounds, while sophomore Keaton Hood won by technical fall with a score of 16-6 at 138, going almost the full distance in 5:28.
After Wildcats junior Alissa Caltagirone won by forfeit at 145, sophomore Sophia Bassino earned a tech fall of 10-0 in only 52 seconds at 160.
Then sophomore Abbie Miles at 180 and junior Mickaela Keane at 207 both won with falls, Miles in 45 seconds and Keane at 1:07.
Otterbein 25, NMU 23
The Wildcats lost a net 12 points in forfeits, having to give away the 103, 110 and 117 divisions while getting a forfeit back at 180 with Miles.
NMU actually went 4-2 in contested matches, including Cook winning by another fall in 1:28 at 124 pounds, while Caltagirone won by pin in 1:52 and Bassino did the same in just 31 seconds.
Keane picked up a 2-0 decision for her victory, while the Cardinals also won by fall at 131 and 138.
NMU 29, Hiram 5
In this match, Northern was 5-1 in contested matches, including Cook needing 37 seconds, Caltagirone 27 seconds and Miles 1:04 to pick up victories by fall.
Bassino won by tech fall with a 10-0 score at 1:26, while Keane won by decision, 8-0. Each team also picked up points from a single forfeit.
NMU 21, Frostburg 21
For the second straight meet, the Wildcats tied a match 21-21 and won a tiebreaker to take that victory.
This was the ultimate comeback victory as NMU fell behind 21-0 before pulling even and getting the win in the end.
Northern forfeited at 110 and 117, then lost by decision at 124 and by fall at 131 to dig itself a big hole.
But Hood got the Wildcats on the scoreboard with an 8-2 win at 138, while Caltagirone added a fall at 2:26.
Then Bassino pulled out another tiebreaker victory after she wrestled to a 3-3 deadlock at 160, while Miles won by fall in 1:50 and Keane ended it with her third straight victory by decision, 6-0.
