Wolverines ready to begin Underwood era

No. 14 Michigan opens the season tonight at home against New Mexico. Bryce Underwood is expected to take the Wolverines’ first snap, becoming the fourth freshman quarterback to start in program history.
Michigan beat No. 11 Alabama 19-13, closing season with three straight wins to finish 8-5. The winning streak included a fourth straight win over rival Ohio State in coach Sherrone Moore’s debut season.
New Mexico lost at Hawaii 38-30 to finish 5-7 for its eighth straight losing season under coach Bronco Mendenhall, who left after one season to lead Utah State.
