Student-athletes must have attained at least a 3.75 grade-point average for each semester last school year while appearing in at least 40% of their team’s games. Exceptions on the participation rule were granted to injured players and backup goaltenders. Schools must also be a member of the AHCA.
There were 709 students honored in NCAA Division I, 360 men’s players and 349 women.
In addition to the 11 honored from NMU, other CCHA members schools also earned awards — 13 from Ferris State, six from St. Thomas, nine each from Lake Superior State and Bemidji State, five from Minnesota State-Mankato, four from Augustana and two from Michigan Tech.
With about half of last year’s Wildcats team composed of first-year players, freshmen made up most of Northern’s honorees.
