MARQUETTE — Northern Michigan University’s main sports conference, the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, recently announced academic honors for student-athletes in its sports along with several nonsponsored sports for “at-large” honors.

NMU had well over 200 student-athletes honored, in fact its 222 for the 2023-24 school year was an increase from 213 in 2022-23.

To be eligible, a student must be on the team’s active roster at the conclusion of the sport’s season and may not be a freshman or first-year transfer, though redshirt freshmen are eligible.

The GLIAC Academic Excellence Award is given to those eligible with a cumulative grade-point average of 3.50 or higher, while the conference’s All-Academic Award goes to those with a GPA of 3.00 to 3.49.

Northern had 146 student-athletes named Academic Excellence and 79 All-Academic.

For NMU, students from 14 conference sports won honors, while two other sports, men’s and women’s nordic skiing, had students named as at-large as the GLIAC doesn’t sponsor the sport.

A few other sports, most notably the Central Collegiate Hockey Association in men’s hockey, have their own academic awards and those honors were made separately.

Here are the honorees, listed by season and then sport. Each honoree is listed with their athletic eligibility year, major, GPA and hometown:
