MARQUETTE — Senior guard Makaylee Kuhn of the Northern Michigan University women’s basketball team has been named the GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week after a pair of 25-point games at home last week.

The Hilbert, Wisconsin, native led all scorers in each game, a 71-60 victory over Wisconsin-Parkside on Thursday and a 73-62 triumph past Purdue Northwest on Saturday.

Against Parkside, she sank 6 of 6 free throws while also recording game highs of 10 rebounds for a double-double and six assists.

Then against Purdue NW, she made 9 of 19 from the field and 7 of 9 free throws while pulling down six rebounds and not committing a turnover in 32 minutes court time.

This was only the Wildcats’ second women’s basketball GLIAC weekly award this season after Mackenzie Holzwart was named Defensive Player of the Week back in mid-November.

Kuhn is the No. 1 GLIAC scorer at 17.4 points per game. She has scored in double figures for 13 consecutive games and also has at least 20 points 10 times this season.

And she’s the NMU all-time high scorer with 1,853 career points.

She’s also fourth in the league in rebounding at 7.1 per game and fifth in free throw percentage at 82.4% (98 of 119).

The other GLIAC women’s basketball honoree this week is Grand Valley State’s Rylie Bisballe as Defensive Player of the Week.

The Wildcats have just one game this week, but it’s an important one for several reasons. Not only is NMU playing at Michigan Tech in a game against its Upper Peninsula rival, but the Huskies at 8-5 are just one game behind third-place Northern’s 9-4. The game will be played in Houghton at 1 p.m. Saturday.
