Uncertainty prompts changes to Northern Michigan University skiing, wrestling home meets
ISHPEMING — Due to uncertain snow conditions in this area, the Central Collegiate Ski Association has decided to move next week’s collegiate nordic skiing Northern Michigan University CCSA Invitational to Minnesota.
That was announced Wednesday, then on Thursday, the university said that a home women’s wrestling meet against Alma this afternoon was postponed due to a looming winter storm that may hit the area this weekend.
NMU and Alma are looking to reschedule the wrestling meet for early February.
In addition, the Wildcats wrestlers are still on to travel to Wisconsin for the Lakeland Scramble in Plymouth that is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. EST Saturday.
The ski meet was scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 20-21, and was to be held in Ishpeming at the Al Quaal Recreation Area.
Now it has been moved to Coleraine, Minnesota, at the Mount Itasca Winter Sports Complex, according to an NMU Sports Information news release on Wednesday. Coleraine is located about 75 miles northwest of Duluth, not far from Hibbing and Grand Rapids.
The CCSA cited concerns about the snow and race trail conditions in Ishpeming for this NCAA qualifying event.
The first day of the event will be a 7.5-kilometer skate with the second day a classic mass start and distance yet to be determined.
