Isaac Parrish’s prolific performance on 3-pointers leads Baraga boys basketball team past Republic-Michigamme, 32-30

REPUBLIC — Points were so hard to come by that neither team had five players reach the scoring column as the Baraga boys basketball team emerged with a 32-30 victory on Thursday night.

The difference might’ve been the eight-minute performance by the Vikings’ Isaac Parrish, who sank four 3-pointers in the third quarter to insure his team would lead at the end of each quarter.

Parrish finished with a game-high 16 points, exactly half his team’s total, while teammate Daniel Conner tacked on nine.

Fisher Raisanen tried his own 3-point barrage in the fourth quarter and made two of them to finish with a Hawks-high 10 points. John Wheeler added nine points and Kenneth Ambuehl seven.

Baraga built advantages of 7-4 after one quarter and 14-12 at halftime before Parrish caught fire in the third. But R-M (1-1) countered with a couple baskets by Ambuehl and five free throws from three other players to stay within 28-24 entering the final period.

But Raisanen’s 3s were the only points the Hawks managed in the final eight minutes.

Both teams shot 75 percent from the free throw line, Baraga making 3 of 4 while the Hawks sank 9 of 12.

After playing its first two games at home, R-M hits the road for all five of its games this month, starting with a 6 p.m. EST game at Watersmeet today.

Two more games come next week, at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Superior Central and at 5:30 p.m. Friday at Big Bay de Noc.
