MARQUETTE — The Northern Michigan University women’s soccer team is coming home fresh off a road trip where the Wildcats suffered their only loss of the season.
NMU is 6-1-1 overall and 2-1-1 in the GLIAC and will play nationally ranked No. 13 Grand Valley State and Davenport this weekend. Northern hosts GVSU (5-1-2, 3-0-1) at 3 p.m. today at the NMU Soccer Field, then DU (4-1-2, 1-1-2) at 1 p.m. Sunday.
The Wildcats are also nationally ranked, now for a program-record third straight week, at No. 18 in the United Soccer Coaches poll.
NMU resides in third place in the conference with the Lakers leading the way and the Panthers in fourth. Sunday’s game is also a Pink Out game, where fans are encouraged to wear pink for breast cancer awareness.

Northern head coach Jon Sandoval knows the importance of these games against teams near the Wildcats in the conference standings.
“As I’ve mentioned many times before, everybody (in the GLIAC) on any given day can beat you (and) Grand Valley and Davenport are no different,” he said in an NMU Sports Information release previewing the weekend.
“It’s going to be really important that we play with pride this weekend to defend our home field.”
