MARQUETTE — Calumet has taken over the top spot in this week’s Upper Peninsula high school volleyball Divisions 1-3 rankings as reported today by the U.P. Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association.

The Copper Kings replace Kingsford at the top of D 1-3 as the Flivvers fell to a strong second. Calumet received three first-place votes and Kingsford two.

Manistique slipped just a bit from a tie for second (with Calumet) into third place alone.

And Marquette remains among the “others receiving votes,” still just a tantalizing single vote out of the top five.

In Division 4, the top three teams remain in place while the lower reaches had quite a bit of turnover.

Locally, Ishpeming fell from fifth into the “others” category, two votes out of the top five.

Newberry remains one vote out of the top five while actually receiving one more vote this week.

But Forest Park remains a unanimous No. 1 with Rudyard and Stephenson tied for second.
