Marquette Redmen baseball team finishes comeback to post 5-3 win over visiting Escanaba

MARQUETTE — Marquette scored twice in the fifth inning to take a one-run lead, then added an insurance marker in the sixth to finish with a 5-3 victory over visiting Escanaba in a high school baseball game played Wednesday.

The Redmen bumped their overall record above .500 at 7-6 while also moving to 3-1 in the Great Northern Conference.

Easton Miller’s groundout in the fifth scored the go-ahead run as he finished 1 for 3 at the plate.

That made a winner out of Redmen starting pitcher Isaac Sarles, who went 6 2/3 innings and allowed three runs, two of them earned, on six hits and four walks as he struck out four.

Logan Peterson earned the save by getting the final out in the top of the seventh as he walked one.

Lennox Peacock was tagged with the pitching loss for Escanaba, even though he gave up just two earned runs. There were also three unearned runs on six hits as he walked five but K’d eight.

Peterson and teammates Gib Jezewski and Luke Mead joined MIller in going 1 for 3 as all three also scored a run and Peterson additionally walked and stole a base.

Peyton Davis was 1 for 1 and AJ Martin 1 for 2, while Jake Toyras was hitless but drew a walk, stole a base and scored a run.

Esky’s Trent Lawson and Eli Gardner each had two hits as Lawson had an RBI and Gardner scored twice.
