NMU tunes up for upcoming GLIACs

MARQUETTE — The Northern Michigan track and field team was to send a handful of student-athletes to compete in the Drake Alternative Meet on Friday in Whitewater, Wisconsin.

It is the final meet for the squad ahead of next week’s GLIAC Championships.

The events was to start at noon in the field with the final events of the meet wrapping up in the evening.

Last Time Out

At the Elaine Leigh Invite downstate, Ahna Larson ran the 400m hurdles in a time of 1:03.71 to set a new school record while Gianna Hoving won gold in the 800m to highlight the meet for the Wildcats.

Larson’s time of 1:03.71 broke the previous school record of 1:03.96 that stood since 2019. She took third in the race. NMU’s lone gold medal finish came from freshman Gianna Hoving who ran the 800m in a time of 2:15.97, setting a new personal record to best the field.

In total, Northern amassed one win, five second-place finishes, and four third-place finishes throughout the meet.

A Look Ahead to the GLIAC Championships

The GLIAC Championships will take place next week, with the meet running from Wednesday through Friday. The meet will be hosted by Davenport in Caledonia, Michigan.
