Ishpeming-Negaunee’s Nori Korsman sets diving record

NEGAUNEE — Diver Nori Korsman broke her own record and two of her teammates were double winners as the Ishpeming-Negaunee Gators girls high school swimming and diving team won a meet on Feb. 9 at the Negaunee High School pool.

The I-N girls pulled out a 95-91 victory over traditional Upper Peninsula power Houghton despite the Gremlins winning seven of the meet’s 12 events.

Korsman was key to her team’s victory as she scored 164.2 points in diving to break her own record of 149.25.

Teammates Lola Dockery and Bella North each won two events as both swam with the 200-yard medley relay winners in 2 minutes, 27.16 seconds. They were joined on that team with Kina Salmela and Payton Ihamaki.

Dockery also won the 100 backstroke in 1:21.75, while North appended a victory in the 50 freestyle in 30.41 seconds. The other Gators’ winner was Emma LaFave in the 100 butterfly in 1:25.96, a U.P. Finals qualifying time.

Blake Holmgren was I-N’s lone event winner in the boys meet as Houghton defeated the Gators, 122-49.

Holmgren took the 200 individual medley in 2:43.87.
