MARQUETTE — The Northern Michigan University women’s wrestling team travels to Fort Wayne, Indiana, this weekend to compete for two days at the Warrior Duals and Warrior Open, both hosted by Indiana Tech.

The Wildcats take the mat at the Doug Edgar Indoor Track Facility this afternoon and on Saturday morning for these meets.

In today’s duals, each team enters one wrestler per weight class, facing off against a competitor in the same class. Team scoring is the idea behind dual meets, with the winning wrestler from each class awarded points depending on the type of victory.

NMU comes into this weekend ranked 15th in NCAA women’s wrestling, highlighted by Diana Dzasezeva, who is sixth in the 136-pound class.

On Jan. 15, the Wildcats traveled to Plymouth, Wisconsin, for the Lakeland Scramble, returning the favor after Lakeland visited them at the Superior Dome the previous weekend for Northern’s first-ever home meet.

Also competing at the Wisconsin event were downstate Albion College, Carthage of Wisconsin and host Lakeland.

In Wisconsin, the Wildcats secured four victories in the five contested divisions, with victories from Alejandra Perez (116-123 pounds), Dzasezeva (130-136), Marisa Roth (143-155) and Noelle Gaffney (170).
