MARQUETTE — Several area players earned Special Mention and Honorable Mention when voting was conducted by the Upper Peninsula Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association at its 73rd annual fall football meeting held at Northern Michigan University in Marquette on Wednesday.

These were all awards for 11-player football, of which 18 teams in the U.P. played this fall. That number is expected to drop to 17 next fall as St. Ignace is seen as likely to switch to eight-player.

Special Mention is reserved for players who received two or more votes but not enough to make an All-U.P. First Team, while Honorable Mention is for all others.
