NEGAUNEE — The Negaunee High School squads swept to team titles at the WIN cross country meets held at the Negaunee Township Hall trails on Thursday afternoon.

The Miners boys scored a near-perfect 18 points as Westwood had 74 and Ishpeming didn’t field a full team on the five-kilometer (3.1-mile) course for boys and girls.

The WIN acronym stands for the three schools involved in this meet. They also hold WIN competitions in a number of other sports during the school year.

In the girls meet, Negaunee rolled up 31 points to 51 for the Patriots as the Hematites again didn’t have a full team.

Despite the lack of a full team, Ishpeming junior Lola Korpi won the girls race by 45 seconds, finishing in 20 minutes, 9 seconds.

Miners senior Endla Harris was runner-up in 20:54, while Westwood junior Laretta Boburka came in third in 22:21.

Hematites sophomore Laynie Korpi was fourth in 23:09 and Negaunee junior Seere Helms-Gleason was fifth in 23:24.

The rest of the top 10 was about a minute to 2 1/2 minutes behind the first five finishers — Westwood junior Baylie LaVigne was sixth in 24:42, Negaunee junior Amara Rasmussen seventh in 24:53, Negaunee’s Emilia Hanninen eighth in 25:05, Negaunee senior Emily Marker ninth in 25:36 and Negaunee sophomore Cheyanne Larson 10th in 26:14.

The Negaunee boys had a 1-2-3-5-7 finish for its dominating victory.

Senior Judge Anderson won that race in 18:15, with senior teammate James Dank runner-up in 18:41 and Miners’ freshman Simon Jaklin third in 18:58.

In addition, Negaunee sophomore Michael Slawinski was fifth in 20:29 and Miners senior Joe McCollum seventh in 21:23.

Fitting between them was Ishpeming sophomore Levi Nicholls in fourth in 20:10 and Westwood junior Patrick Klump sixth in 21:15.

The rest of the top 10 was Ishpeming sophomore Joey Giroux in eighth in 21:33, Negaunee senior Devin Santilli ninth in 21:42 and Negaunee sophomore Caden Steede 10th in 21:47.
