ISHPEMING — With more than a decade of experience already on its coaching staff, Westwood High School should make a seamless transition to its new varsity head football coach.

Jacob Wolf has taken over the reins of the Patriots’ program, according to a late Tuesday afternoon email from NICE Community Schools athletic director Jon Beckman. Wolf replaces Scott Syrjala, who stepped down in February after seven years, a 45-24 record and six MHSAA playoff appearances.

Wolf has been a football assistant coach at the school since 2011, most recently as head junior varsity football coach.

He’s also been the high school weight room supervisor along with its strength and conditioning coach.

Wolf is a 2008 graduate from Westwood and 2015 graduate from Northern Michigan University in Marquette.

He played football and basketball at Westwood from 2004-07.
