Calumet girls basketball team pulls away late vs. Westwood Patriots, 52-39, on Wednesday

ISHPEMING — Calumet pulled away in the fourth quarter to take a 52-39 victory at Westwood in a high school girls basketball game played Wednesday evening.

The Copper Kings led, but not by a lot, after each of the first three quarters — 15-8 after one, 24-15 at halftime and 37-32 after three.

But Marybeth Halonen scored seven points to lead Calumet to a 15-point fourth as Westwood managed just seven points.

Natalie Prophet paced the Patriots with 14 points, including a pair of 3-pointers, while teammate Mallory Leece added seven with three more Westwood players scoring six apiece — Alyssa Prophet, Jillian Koski and Megan Marta.

The Copper Kings’ Jana Loukus topped all scorers with 17 points, while teammates Alexis Strom and Halonen each added 12.

Next up on the Patriots schedule is a home game against Iron Mountain on Monday evening.
