MARQUETTE — Northern Michigan University and U.S. National Training Site weightlifter Lukas Zielke earned a pair of medals last weekend at the North American Open Finals sponsored by USA Weightlifting in Denver.

The NMU junior from downstate Baroda competed in the 67-kilogram (147.7-pound) class, earning bronze and silver medals.

Competing against 15 other lifters in his weight class, he lifted 109 kg (240.3 lbs.) in the snatch and 141 kg (310.9 lbs.) in the clean and jerk for a 250 kg (551.2 lbs.) total.

His clean and jerk total earned him the silver medal and total was good for a bronze.
