Northern Michigan University’s Isabela Cardoso, Caroline Halonen named to GLIAC women’s soccer all-tourney team

MARQUETTE — A pair of Northern Michigan University players were named to the GLIAC Women’s Soccer All-Tournament Team at the conclusion of the conference sport’s run on last Tuesday.

Wildcats senior forward Isabela Cardoso and junior midfielder Caroline Halonen made the all-tourney team.

Cardoso of Sao Paulo, Brazil, started all 16 games she played in, leading NMU with 10 goals and 23 points. She also earned All-GLIAC honorable mention and in the tourney and had a goal in both games Northern played in.

Halonen, of downstate Hartland,

led the Wildcats in shots, shots on goal and assists for the season, leading the GLIAC in total shots with 66.

In the tourney, Halonen played all 90 minutes in both games.

In those games, NMU won 2-1 at Michigan Tech in the quarterfinals before falling to No. 1 seed Grand Valley State by the same 2-1 score at the Lakers’ field.

Northern finished with an 11-8-1 overall record and 8-5-1 GLIAC mark to earn the No. 5 seed for the tourney.
