HOUGHTON — With the regular season winding down, the Marquette boys soccer team is looking to get in another groove after having its 29-game winning streak snapped several weeks ago.

The Redmen are beginning a new streak after defeating Houghton 7-1 on Saturday at the Gremlins field to improve to 18-2 this season.

Top scorer Max Dawson proved prolific again, notching a three-goal hat trick with two of the goals in the first half when MSHS built a 4-1 lead.

Teammate Ezra Pickard added two goals, one in each half, while Lamb Ngafeeson and Hayden Byma on a penalty kick rounded out their team’s scoring.

Pickard and Axel Vermaat each picked up a pair of assists, while Byma, Evan Sysko and Kaleb Chipelewski added one apiece.

Houghton scored its only goal shortly before halftime after the visitors had already built a 4-0 advantage.

Marquette goaltender Isaac Johnson faced six shots.

The Redmen finish the regular season with a game at Sault Ste. Marie on Wednesday.
