Maria Millado leads Marquette Redettes volleyball team to 3-set win over Gladstone

MARQUETTE — Maria Millado led Marquette as the Redettes made quick work of Gladstone in three sets during a high school volleyball match held at the Redettes’ gym on Tuesday night.

MSHS prevailed 25-12, 25-13, 25-15 to improve to 23-5-1 overall and 4-0 in the Great Northern Conference.

“We were able to experiment with different lineups and get our juniors some good experience,” Redettes head coach Ann Crandell-Williams said. “Our players were able to communicate well and maintain their focus.

“It was a solid conference win and everyone was able to contribute.”

Millado led Marquette in kills, service aces and blocks, with nine kills and a .667 attack percentage, seven aces and five blocks, all solo. She added six digs.

MSHS was particularly good with its serving, making 23 aces, an average of nearly eight per set, with just nine errors.

Seiler Hruska added four kills and joined Millado with a .667 attack percentage, adding in five aces and six digs.

Hetty Fuess had four kills and five digs, while Piper Lakenen took over the majority of the setting with 15 of her the Redettes’ 25 set assists, adding three aces.

Arimae Holder led Marquette with eight digs as she also had an ace, while Roxy Nelson made three kills, two aces, six digs and a block.

And Emma Sanderson-Torres had five digs, a kill and two aces; Ella Jezewski added four digs and two kills; and Cora Anderson made three kills, three digs and an ace.

With still nearly a month remaining until the start of the MHSAA district tournament, the Redettes host Menominee at 7 p.m. Thursday before traveling to the Traverse City Central Invitational on Saturday.
