Parker Betts named Northern Michigan University Greco-Roman wrestling assistant coach

Parker Betts

MARQUETTE — The Greco-Roman wrestling program at Northern Michigan University has a new assistant coach in Parker Betts.

“I am very excited to have Parker join the coaching staff,” said Andy Bisek, Greco-Roman head coach who made the announcement on Wednesday. “Parker was a very driven leader on the team as an athlete. Recently he has spent time working with youth and high school wrestlers and is prepared to help those age groups transition into college.”

Betts comes back to NMU after serving as assistant coach for Gulf Breeze, Florida, High School, where he helped guide the Dolphins to a runner-up finish out of 30 schools at the 1-2A district championships.

Prior to Gulf Breeze, Betts served as a coach at two suburban Minneapolis-St. Paul schools in Minnesota. He was head coach at Centennial High School in Circle Pines and assistant coach at St. Michael-Albertville in St. Michael.

He also served as a volunteer assistant for the NMU Greco-Roman program during the 2016-17 academic year.

Betts, who wrestled at 120 kilograms, spent four years as a member of the NMU Greco-Roman team, where he was a three-time U.S. Open All-American, earned eight international medals and was the University national champion in 2015. He also placed second at the Senior National Championships in 2016.

Betts graduated from NMU in 2017 with a degree in physical education and coaching.
