Ishpeming 5, Gwinn 3
On Monday at Ishpeming, the Hematites swept all four doubles flights, including one that went to three sets, to offset the Modeltowners taking three of the singles matches.
Ishpeming No. 2 doubles tandem of Ashley Stille and Ella DeMarois outlasted Gwinn’s Brita Anderson and Arianna Arnese 5-7, 6-1, 6-4.
The Hematites also got their only singles win in three sets when No. 3 Lilly Swanson fended off Gwinn’s Brook Chaput 7-6, 3-6, 7-6.
The Modeltowners chalked up a three-set win when No. 4 singles player Emma Clairmont outlasted Ishpeming’s Emily DeMarois 6-4, 0-6, 6-3.

Marquette 6, Ishpeming 2
On Wednesday at Ishpeming, the marquee matchup at No. 1 singles was the only match that went three sets as Marquette’s Kaia Miller came back against the Hematites’ Ella Luke 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.
“There were some real good battles up on the Ishpeming courts,” MSHS head coach Karl Thomsen said. “The No. 1 singles match was tops on that list. Kaia and Ella put on quite the show for the fans, a lot of long rallies and quality shots.”
Two other Marquette flights also drew praise from their coach — the No. 3 doubles team of Sophie Krysmalski and Lyndsey Lake, who won 6-3, 6-0 over Ishpeming’s Ciara Schaffer and Emily Vial, and No. 2 singles player Annabella Martinson, who defeated the Hematites’ Maia Hemmila 7-6 (7-3), 6-3.
“I was also happy to see our girls continue to improve on the strategy side of things,” Thomsen said. “I thought the team of Sophie Krysmalski and Lyndsey Lake did a wonderful job of communicating and closing out points at the net.
“On the singles side of things, Annabella Martinson did a great job of adjusting to her opponent’s ground strokes and turned things around for a nice victory.”
Ishpeming got its victory at No. 3 singles when Emily DeMarois won 6-1, 6-1 over the Redettes’ Lexi Hammerstrom and at No. 1 doubles when Addie Morton and Jenna Maki got a 6-4, 6-4 victory over MSHS’ Eliina Brazeau and Cecelia Jacuzzo.
