Brother of ex-Northern Michigan University goalie Atte Tolvanen signed to NHL contract

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — The Nashville Predators have signed forward Eeli Tolvanen to a three-year, $4.35 million deal.

General manager David Poile announced the deal Monday.

Tolvanen, 22, just finished his first full NHL season. He scored 22 points in 40 games, and his 11 goals ranked fourth on the Predators as the most by a Nashville rookie since Filip Forsberg had 26 in 2014-15.

Tolvanen is the younger brother of former Northern Michigan University goaltender Atte Tolvanen, 26, who won two WCHA Goaltender of the Year awards with the Wildcats and set an NCAA record with more then 300 consecutive minutes without allowing a goal during his time in Marquette.

Atte Tolvanen is listed on EliteProspects.com as playing in the Finnish league last season and is also scheduled back in that league next season as well.

The 5-foot-10, 191-pound Eeli Tolvanen also had six power-play goals, tied for the second-most among Nashville rookies all-time. His six-game point streak between March 21 and 30 tied for the second-longest among those rookies.
