MARQUETTE — Northern Michigan University men’s basketball player Max Bjorklund was awarded a spot on the Honors Court and the Wildcats team earned an Academic Excellence Award for the 2020-21 season as named by the National Association of Basketball Coaches on Tuesday.

Bjorklund, a mechanical engineering major and a basketball guard who was a junior on last season’s team, earned a spot as a varsity player who was a junior or senior academically while maintaining a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.20. In addition, the team must have a full-time coach who is a member of the NABC.

Three other GLIAC schools had a total of 14 student-athletes honored, including Michigan Tech with 10. Among the Huskies honored was senior Trent Bell, a Negaunee High School graduate majoring in civil engineering.

The other GLIAC schools with honorees were Ferris State and Wayne State with two each.

To win the team Academic Excellence Award, the Wildcats maintained a GPA of at least 3.00 and was one of only two GLIAC schools to earn the distinction.

For a full listing of players named to the Honors Court across NCAA Divisions I, II and III, visit online at https://www.nabc.com/NABC_Honors_Court/index.

The site didn’t have a list of this year’s Academic Excellence Awards, though.
