NEGAUNEE — Negaunee High School softball coach Randy Carlson was almost happy his team had some hitting troubles on Tuesday.
Almost, but not quite.
Nevertheless, the Miners still prevailed in a doubleheader over visiting Calumet on Tuesday, allowing just one hit in each game with 10-0 and 6-0 wins.
“We’ve had a pretty good streak going with our offense,” Carlson said, “but in the second game (Tuesday), it was nice to see we had good pitching and defense, and that for once, those parts of our game picked up the offense instead of it always being the other way around.”
Larissa Anderson allowed just a fourth-inning single to Laura Giachino in the nightcap as the Miners had a lead of only 1-0 through three innings.

“Usually, we have a big inning, five or six or more runs, but that didn’t happen in the second game,” Carlson said.
Instead, the Miners got a run in the fourth and two in both the fifth and sixth innings for its total output.
Anderson struck out 11 and walked three while going all seven innings. Game 1 winning hurler Josie Thomson went 2 for 3 in the nightcap with a double, while teammate Lilly Nelson also had two hits with an RBI.
And Katelyn Lammi clubbed a two-run homer in the fifth to provide a bit of a cushion for Anderson.
In the opener, Thomson allowed a third-inning single with no walks as she fanned nine. Calumet hurler Elli Djerf allowed eight runs on eight hits in five innings, walking three and K’ing four.
Lammi and Morgan Carlson each were 3 for 3 for Negaunee, Lammi getting one RBI and Carlson four. Teammate Allie Ennett was 2 for 2 with three runs scored.
In a change to the Miners’ schedule, Negaunee hosts Gladstone for a single varsity game at 4 p.m. Thursday, with a JV game to follow. NHS then travels to Wisconsin to play a twinbill at Rhinelander on Saturday morning.

The Devils’ Amber Curtis got the pitching win as teammate Kallen Micolo had two hits.
In the nightcap, Saari again took the pitching loss, allowing 11 hits and a walk while fanning five.
Marquette’s Rayna Warchock hit a triple while Haynes and teammates Ella Jezewski and Marleigh Sherbinow each singled.
