NEGAUNEE — The Marquette boys and girls track and field teams received an invitation on Friday and made sure to take advantage of it.

Both Redmen and Redettes came out on top at the Negaunee Lions Invitational with the boys winning in convincing fashion with 131 points, well ahead of runner-up Gladstone with 81.5. The Marquette girls, on the other hand, had a little stiffer competition as they finished with 86 points, just ahead of Negaunee with 80 and Escanaba reaching 78.

The Redmen took first in two of the four relays — the 3,200-meter and 400 — with Kingsford winning the other two. Marquette was also sharp in both the sprints and distance runs.

Kam Karp won the 100 and 200 dashes for the Redmen, while Lincoln Sager took the 400. When it came to long distance, Carson and Colin Vanderschaaf each won an event for the Redmen with the former winning the 3,200 and the latter the 1,600.

Gladstone’s Blake Servant had arguably the best day of the all the boys by winning the 110 and 300 hurdles, the discus throw and long jump.

In the girls meet, the Redettes also won two relays — the 400 and 800 — with Escanaba taking the other two.

Marquette also had five individual champions with Baux Truckey earning titles in the 100 and 200. The other three winners for the Redettes were Olivia Moffitt in the 3,200, Julia Ott in the high jump and Kali McDonough in the pole vault.

Negaunee got two victories from Alyssa Hill in the discus and shot put, while Ishpeming and Westwood also notched victories. Lola Korpi won the 1,600 for the Hematites, while Elizabeth Williams took first in the 800 for the Patriots.

Ahna Larson had a good day for Gladstone as she won both 100 and 300 hurdles and the long jump, while Escanaba’s Ciara Ostrenga was also a champion in the 400.
