Isaac Lawrence leads Republic-Michigamme boys at own track invitational

REPUBLIC — The hosts made a particularly good showing during the boys meet at the Republic-Michigamme Invitational high school track and field meet held Thursday.

The Hawks placed third in the six-school field with 80 points. Bessemer was a close second with 85, while Norway won the meet with 101. Forest Park was fourth with 68 1/2 as North Dickinson had 38 and Carney-Nadeau 18.

In the girls meet, R-M finished sixth with 18 as ND won with 145, while Bessemer was second with 67. C-N was third with 59, FP fourth with 54 and Norway fifth with 43.

For the boys, the Hawks’ Isaac Lawrence was one of two boys to win three individual events, joining Forest Park’s Mason Rintala.

Lawrence carted off the hardware in the 100-meter dash in 11.13 seconds and added victories in the 200 in 23.82 and long jump by leaping 19 feet, 7 3/4 inches.

R-M also got a win from Sam Dyer in the 400 in 56.66 seconds and from Gabe Dupont in the shot put with a heave of 34-9. The Hawks’ 1,600 relay also won in 3:55.16, though individual names weren’t available.

Rintala was a winner in the 800, 1,600 and 3,200.

R-M’s lone win in the girls meet was turned in by Leah McCracken after she heaved the shot put 32-6.

The Hawks’ next best finishes were turned in by Sophia Jarvi, third in the 200 and fifth in the 100.
