Westwood softball charges past Bark River-Harris
NATIONAL MINE — Rain was in the forecast Thursday afternoon, an obvious problem for softball teams.
However, the Westwood Patriots overcame the weather and some early errors to sweep a home doubleheader from Bark River-Harris, 10-5 and 8-2.
In the opener, the Patriots plated five runs in the second inning and maintained a comfortable lead the rest of the way. Ellie Miller was the big hitter for Westwood as she smacked two homers.
Allie Radcliffe got the win in the circle for Westwood, giving up six hits and one walk with nine strikeouts, while Esther Oswald took the loss for the Broncos as she surrendered 11 hits and three walks with five strikeouts.
During the nightcap, the Patriots put three runs on the scoreboard in the first and another two in the third on their way to an easy win. Natalie Prophet hit a home run for Westwood and stole three bases.
Megan Marta picked up the victory for the Patriots, giving up only two hits and two walks, while whiffing five. Radcliffe also made some key plays at third base to help stifle the Broncos’ offense. Olivia Erickson was dealt the loss for BR-H as she gave up 11 hits and three walks with three strikeouts.
Westwood travels to Iron Mountain Monday.
